Trusted Cudgen Electrician
Cudgen is a small village with a big job. The red volcanic soil around it grows much of the region’s sweet potato crop, and the farms, sheds and roadside stalls along Cudgen Road have been part of the Tweed for generations.
Electrical work here is practical. It is about keeping pumps, coolrooms and packing lines running, and making sure farmhouses that have stood for decades are safe to live in.
Blue Ridge Electrical handles both sides, the farm and the home, along with newer houses on the edge of the plateau.
We are about 20 minutes from Cudgen and provide a fixed quote before starting.

Electrical Services Cudgen

Dust, moisture and vermin are hard on rural wiring. We find chewed cables, corroded joints and failed switches, and repair them to last.

Farmhouse boards have often been added to for fifty years. We replace the tangle with a clearly labelled switchboard that has safety switches throughout.

Ceiling fans keep a farmhouse comfortable through humid summers. We install them inside and on wide verandahs.

Kitchens and bathrooms in older homes benefit from proper extraction. We install exhaust fans and vent them through the roof or wall.

Bright, efficient LED lighting for homes, sheds and yards. Good light in a packing shed makes long days easier and safer.

Monitor pumps, tanks and coolroom temperatures remotely, or control yard lights and gates from your phone.

New sheds, extensions and granny flats need power run out to them. We trench, lay conduit and size the cable for the load and distance.

Extra outlets in the house and weatherproof ones in sheds and work areas, including higher-current outlets for welders and compressors.

Working, in-date smoke alarms on every level of the home, hardwired or with long-life batteries, installed to NSW requirements.

Local Electrician In Cudgen
Cudgen sits on a plateau of rich red soil between Kingscliff and Chinderah, about 20 minutes from our Bilambil Heights base.
Farming has shaped the village for well over a century, first with sugar cane and later with the sweet potatoes the area is known for. Many properties combine a family home with machinery sheds, packing areas and irrigation. That mix means single-phase domestic circuits and three-phase equipment supplies often share one installation, sometimes added to piecemeal over decades.
Irrigation is the heart of it. Pumps draw heavy starting currents and sit outdoors or in damp pump houses. Worn contactors, water in junction boxes and undersized cable are common causes of failure, and all of them can be prevented with periodic checks.
The area is changing as well. The Tweed Valley Hospital on Cudgen Road has brought more traffic, more staff and growing demand for housing, and new estates are being built to the south. Newer homes bring requests for air conditioning, car chargers and better lighting.
Older farmhouses and cottages, meanwhile, frequently still have original wiring and few safety switches. A staged upgrade, starting with the switchboard and smoke alarms, is usually the sensible approach.
Coolrooms and cold storage deserve a mention of their own. Sweet potatoes are cured and stored under controlled temperature and humidity, and a refrigeration circuit that fails over a weekend can spoil a great deal of stock. We check the supply, contactors and control wiring to cold storage, and can fit alarms that send a message to your phone if the power drops or the temperature climbs.
Roadside stalls and farm gate shops are part of the scenery along Cudgen Road. Even a small stall with a fridge, a light and a card reader needs a safe supply with weather protection and a safety switch, not an extension lead run across the paddock.
What We Install, Repair and Maintain
Whether you have a house, a farm, a rental or an urgent breakdown, the tabs below set out how we help in Cudgen.
Smoke Alarms and Safety Switches on Cudgen Properties
Every home needs a working alarm on each level. NSW law requires at least one working smoke alarm on every level of a home, including rented houses and accommodation provided to workers. Landlords must make sure alarms are working and replace them within ten years of manufacture. We recommend interconnected photoelectric alarms in or near bedrooms, particularly in older timber houses where fire spreads quickly.
Safety switches in sheds as well as houses. Portable tools, extension leads and wet floors make sheds one of the riskier places on a property. Each outlet circuit there should be protected by a safety switch, just as in the house. We test existing devices, add them where they are missing and make sure outdoor and pump circuits are covered.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Cudgen from your base?
Around 20 minutes. We are regularly on the Tweed Coast, so fitting in a Cudgen job is rarely difficult.
Do you work on three-phase farm equipment?
Yes. We install and repair three-phase supplies, motor starters, pump controls and distribution boards for sheds and packing areas.
My irrigation pump keeps tripping out. What causes that?
Common causes are a failing motor, low voltage from undersized cable, moisture in connections or a worn contactor or overload. We test each part of the circuit to find the actual fault before recommending a repair.
Can you provide power to a new farm shed?
Yes. We assess whether the existing supply has capacity, run underground or overhead cable to the shed and fit a sub-board with lighting, outlets and any three-phase points you need.
Is the wiring in an old farmhouse dangerous?
It can be. Rubber and cloth insulation deteriorates with age and heat, and many older homes lack safety switches. An inspection and test will tell you the condition and what should be done first.
Do you look after rental houses and workers’ accommodation?
Yes. We carry out smoke alarm checks, safety switch testing and repairs, and give owners a written record.
Can you work around harvest?
We can. Tell us your busy periods and we will schedule planned work outside them, while still responding to breakdowns when they happen.
Do I pay for a quote on farm work?
No. We visit the property, look at the sheds, pumps and supply involved and give you a fixed written price at no cost.
Who carries out the work on Cudgen jobs?
Qualified electricians licensed in NSW, working for a family business that is insured for domestic, rural and commercial jobs.
Can you install backup power for a coolroom or packing shed?
Yes. We fit generator inlets and changeover switches sized for the equipment you need to keep running, so a network outage during harvest does not stop refrigeration or packing. We can also set up automatic changeover where a permanent generator is installed.
Do you install lighting for packing sheds and yards?
We do. High bay LED fittings give even, shadow-free light over sorting tables and conveyors, and floodlights on sheds and poles make early starts and late finishes safer for staff and vehicles.
How do I know if my farm supply is big enough for new equipment?
We measure what the property draws at its busiest and compare that with the rating of your mains and main switch. If a new pump, coolroom or washer would push it over, we tell you what upgrade is needed and help arrange it with the network.
